Philosophy- Mrs. Orand believes teachers should engage the natural curiosity of students and guide them to become life-long learners. Catholic educators must encourage students to see with their hearts. The mother of 2 daughters who attend Nolan Catholic High School, she has experienced the value of Catholic education personally.

Accelerated Reader

  • HFCS subscribes to the Enterprise edition of AR, with access to all quizzes, currently in excess of 130,000.
  • The HomeConnect feature of Enterprise allows for greater communication and notifies parents by e-mail when a student takes a quiz.
  • Enterprise supports our reading series with quizzes for the reading selections through grade 5.
  • Enterprise also offers vocabulary quizzes and literacy skills quizzes.
  • This school year our students have taken 1,719 quizzes and read 68,712,113 words.  86% of our students quiz at 85% or better comprehension level.

Author Visits

Every year the HFCS library sponsors an author visit.  Our author for 2011-2012 will be George Shannon.  The author for 2010-2011 was Joe Hayes.

Enrichment Programs

HFCS participates in the North Texas Reading Bee and the TLA Bluebonnet Reading program.  Another local option is Lunch Bunch, a book club.

Renaissance Place - Home Connect

The school uses a computer software program called Renaissance Place to practice reading skills at school. This program has a special feature called Home Connect that lets your child practice these skills at home, and you can see how they are doing.

You can view Home Connect from any computer with an Internet connection using these browsers:

  • Internet Explorer 6.02 or later

  • Firefox 1.5 of later

  • Safari 2.0.3 or laterTo log in to Home Connect

Click the link to Home Connect. This link will open a new browser window and take you out of the HFCS website.

You will need your childs user name and password. Please contact the school office if you need assistance.

In Home Connect you can also:

  • Click Email Setup to sign up to receive emails showing your student's quiz or test results
  • Click Help to get answers to your questions about Home Connect
