Computer Class

Philosophy: These children of God are the future of the world; therefore we must inspire them to always be Christ centered doing their best. A good teacher is dedicated to developing the student intellectually, spiritually and morally.

First Grade

  • Learn how to use a computer & navigate through Web sites
  • Play educational games-Software and Internet
  • Introduce keyboarding-keyboarding short words at 10-15 wpm

 Second Grade

  • Introduce Microsoft Word applications-ie AutoShapes, text boxes, WordArt, copy/paste & formatting
  • Introduce Microsoft Paint-draw themselves and a panda
  • Introduce Information Literacy (Internet Research)
  • Continue building keyboarding skills-keyboarding words at 12-17 wpm

 Third Grade

  • Continue building keyboarding skills with emphasis on accuracy and speed of 15-20 wpm beginning to type short phrases

  • Expand Microsoft Word knowledge-ie tables
  • Introduce Microsoft PowerPoint creating a diagram slide on a World Record and a famous person in history

 Fourth Grade

  • Begin typing short sentences in keyboarding building speed to 17-22 wpm
  • Expand Information Literacy skills
  • Expand Microsoft Word skills, using text boxes, drawing tools, WordArt
    • creating a text box saint report
  • Expand Microsoft PowerPoint skills, creating a 4 slide presentation

 Fifth Grade

  • Improve keyboarding for speed of 20-25 wpm
  • Introduce Microsoft Excel creating spreadsheets and charts
  • Expand Internet research skills and understand URLs, domain name and suffixes
  • Expand knowledge in Microsoft Word & Publisher, create an outline, tables, and a religious vocation content map & cards

Sixth Grade

  • Continue keyboarding for improved accuracy and speed of 22-27 wpm
  • Learn Microsoft Word and Internet terminology
  • Expand knowledge in all Microsoft Office programs
    • Microsoft Publisher-create a brochure, a “Lost Pet” flyer & a postcard
    • Microsoft PowerPoint-create PowerPoints with animation, transitions, and hyperlinks

 Seventh Grade

  • Continue keyboarding for improved accuracy and speed of 25-30 wpm
  • Learn important developments and people in the History of Computers
  • Learn and create a timeline of the History of Computers
  • Expand knowledge in all Microsoft Office programs
    • Microsoft Word-Create custom tables and electronic forms
    • Microsoft PowerPoint-create a presentation on a decade using action buttons and hyperlinks
    • Microsoft Publisher-create a themed birthday invitation
    • Microsoft Excel-Learn terminology, formulas & functions, and create different types of graphs
  • Learn copyright policies & netiquette

 Eighth Grade

  • Continue keyboarding for improved accuracy and speed of 27-32 wpm
  • Expand knowledge in all Microsoft Office programs
    • Microsoft Excel-Create spreadsheets using formulas, functions and order of operations
    • Microsoft Publisher-create a HFCS school brochure and a newsletter
    • Microsoft PowerPoint-Create an “All About Me” presentation
  • Introduce Microsoft Access-create a database with queries, tables, create reports, and learn terminology
  • Learn Internet safety-how to be smart, safe, and secure online
  • Learn how to make advance Google searches
  • Learn computer parts, troubleshooting and maintenance

 Physical Education

Teacher:  Ms. Janice Barker

  • BS, Kinesiology with a minor in Education and History, UNT
  • Associate of Science, TCJC
  • 17 years of teaching experience

Philosophy:  Ms. Barker feels it is important to incorporate Christian philosophy in all teaching areas.

Art/Dance

Teacher:  Mrs. Anna Marie Brittain

  • BA in English from TCU
  • Former TCU Showgirl
  • 15 years dance teaching experience

Philosophy: I believe that every child is a gift from God.  Through a nurturing classroom environment, I strive to inspire my students' God-given creativity through interesting projects and art history lessons.  In dance, I provide the students with an atmosphere that is filled with positive reinforcement to build self esteem and encourage a life-long love for music, dance and physical fitness.

Highlights of Art Class:

  • Virtual tours on the Starboard of the Lascaux Cave Paintings in France and other relevant sights, such as museums and architectural masterpieces
  • Exposure to many great artists and genres from countries around the world.
  • Multiple opportunities to participate in art contest.

Highlights of the Dance Class

  • Lessons in both ballet and jazz weekly
  • Students gain a full understanding of the French terms used in ballet
  • Performance opportunities twice a year

 Spanish

Teacher:   Mrs. Sandra Montes-Torres, K-8th Grade

  • 1st year teaching Spanish at Holy Family Catholic School

Special Projects and Activities During the Year:

In May, around Cinco de Mayo, Holy Family will celebrate with a Fiesta Day.  This celebration includes Mass, some parts of which are in Spanish, treats and activities led by the Spanish teacher. 

Music

Teacher:  Mrs. Linda Gangolf

  • BA degree from Mid-America Christian University, Oklahoma City
  • 10th year to teach Music K-8

 Philosophy:  I absolutely love the freedom we have at Holy Family to express our faith in our classes, whether in music, prayer or classroom discussion.  Teaching to the whole person is most rewarding.

 Elementary music classes:

            Good quality singing encouraged

            Reading music, beginning with steps/skips, high/low, upward/downward

            Learning names of notes on treble clef and reading rhythms

            Play classroom instruments, bells, recorders and guitar

            Introduce a variety of composers and their music on their birthdays

Grades PreK-5 have the wonderful opportunity to present the real story of  Christmas at the annual Christmas program.

 Secondary classes:

            Present a spring program of music and drama featuring 6-8 Grades

            Band program offered beginning in 6th Grade

Hand chime class for 7-8 Grades with performances scheduled throughout the year in church and community

Choral and hand chime class for 6th Grade
