Monday Memo, February 8

Date: February 08, 2010

Volume 11, Issue 23

From Dr. Shreve

In yesterday’s Gospel from Luke, we experienced Jesus calling Peter. Jesus tells Peter to go out in the deep water and shows him the power to catch fish. But Peter is very scared and Jesus tells him “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.” Peter tried to use the excuse not to follow by saying that he was a sinful man. But Jesus came into this world to call sinners. Peter will find out how compassionate our Lord is. Jesus calls each of us to follow him. There can be no excuses. "Give praise to the Lord for his kindness, for his wonderful deeds toward men. He has filled the hungry with good things, he has satisfied the thirsty." Ps. 107: 8-9
