Monday Memo May 18, 2009

Date: May 18, 2009

From Dr. Shreve

In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus promises his disciples that he will never leave them (or us) alone. Jesus has left commandments so that we can be his friends and disciples. This is a simple command, which if observed, will continue the personality and central characteristic of Jesus Himself. “Love one another as I have loved you.” Jesus wants us to be his friends and follow this simple commandment.

Many books have been written about love and how to be loved and how to express love. Each of us can write a book about how we express love through the common, everyday deeds we perform for each other.

Everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.” 1 John, 4

Candle Ceremony will follow our last school Mass on Thursday, May 21, with the 8th graders passing the light of leadership to the 7th graders. Father Joe asks that we keep the aisles clear for the students to get to and from their pews. They will be carrying lit candles. Two staff persons will be taking pictures during the ceremony. These pictures will be posted and /or emailed to families. You may take pictures after the ceremony is completed. Thanks for your cooperation.

Pot O'Gold Results Are In! - Thanks to everyone's tremendous help with this year's Pot O'Gold dinner and auction, we had another successful year! Raffle ticket sales of $15,070 will be deposited in the Excellence in Education savings account for teacher salaries. $5,900 was raised through Project Partners. This money will be used to help purchase a new marquee for the school/parish as well as purchase additional starboards for the classrooms. The balance of the POG profit, approximately, $32,800 will be used for future identified needs, including technology, facility improvements, instructional needs and our general savings account.

Thanks to everyone's participation, a net profit of approximately $53,770 was made for Holy Family Catholic School and its students! Thank you again for your continued support of our school!

Graduate Prayer

Father, I have knowledge, so I pray you’ll show me now

How to use it wisely and in a way somehow

To make the world I live in a little better place,

And make life, with its problems, a bit easier to face…

Grant me faith and courage and put purpose in my days

And show me how to serve You in the most effective ways

So all my education, my knowledge and my skill,

May find their true fulfillment as I learn to do Thy will…

And may I ever be aware in everything I do

That knowledge comes from learning –

and wisdom comes from You.
